Thresholds and edgings cover the transitions and finishing touches a floor needs at doorways, corners and pipes — in solid oak, laminate-matched, and multifunctional profile systems.

Picking the right profile shape matters more than the finish, since each one solves a specific transition problem.

Choosing the Right Threshold Profile

Four distinct profiles cover most doorway transitions. A flat threshold joins two floors of the same height. A reducer (R-section) threshold ramps down between a wood floor and a lower surface like carpet or vinyl, sized to the specific height difference — options here range from a 7mm to a 20mm joint height, so it's worth measuring the actual gap before ordering. A T-shaped threshold fills the expansion gap between two areas of the same flooring at the same height. An L-shaped threshold is used for edging or framing at an external edge instead, with drop heights varying by product. There's also a dedicated wood-to-carpet threshold with different drop heights on each side (14mm and 9mm), built specifically for that transition on 18-20mm solid oak floors.

Multifunctional Profile Systems

Rather than stocking a separate product for every job, three ranges combine several profiles in one system. QuickStep's Incizo profile covers five different applications — including a T-shaped expansion-gap filler and a stair-edge profile — in one multifunctional design, colour-matched to your QuickStep engineered flooring. Elka's 3-in-1 Real Wood Veneer Profile works similarly, supplied unfinished with an adjustable track so you can set the finish yourself. The HDF Unistar threshold does the same job for laminate floors, with a durable protective coating and all fixings supplied.

Pipe Surrounds and Corner Beads

Two small but genuinely useful finishing details. Pipe surrounds (ferrules) wrap neatly around radiator pipes where they pass through the floor, sold in pairs and sized to the pipe diameter (available for both 15mm and 16mm pipes here), across a range of species and finishes from unfinished through to walnut-stained and smoked oak. Corner beads cover external or internal corners to hide gaps, rough edges and screw holes, supplied unfinished so they can be stained to match the floor, and can be fixed with adhesive, pins, screws or nails depending on preference.

Decorative Border Strips

Separate from the functional transition pieces, deco border feature strips — such as the solid wenge option here — are used in line with parquet, solid or engineered flooring purely as a decorative accent, rather than solving a height or expansion-gap problem.

Common Questions About Thresholds and Edgings

How do I know which reducer threshold height I need?
Measure the actual height difference between your new floor and the adjacent surface, then match it to the closest joint height available (7mm, 15mm or 20mm here) rather than guessing.

What's the difference between a T-shaped and L-shaped threshold?
A T-shaped threshold fills the expansion gap between two areas of the same flooring at the same height. An L-shaped threshold is used for edging or framing at an external edge instead.

Is the QuickStep Incizo profile only for one type of transition?
No — it's specifically designed as a multifunctional system covering five different applications, including expansion-gap filling and stair-edge use, from one colour-matched profile.

How do I size a pipe surround correctly?
Match it to your pipe's actual diameter — the range here covers both 15mm and 16mm pipes, and ordering the wrong size means it won't sit cleanly around the pipe.
