Floor Paint

Floor paint is a different approach to finishing a wood floor — rather than a clear or lightly tinted coat that lets the grain show through, it gives full, opaque colour coverage. Our range covers domestic colour finishes from Tover and specialist sports line-marking paint from Junckers.

Paint vs Lacquer or Oil

Lacquers and oils are designed to protect the wood while keeping its natural grain visible, at least to some degree. Floor paint fully covers the wood, so the timber's grain and tone underneath become largely irrelevant to the final look — useful where the goal is a specific colour rather than showcasing the wood itself, or where an existing floor's colour or condition makes a painted finish more practical than trying to match or restore it. Tover's Uniqua range, for example, is a water-based paint formulated for hardness and abrasion resistance in high-traffic areas, giving a full-coverage matt finish rather than a wood-tone one.

Sports Hall Line Marking

A separate use case entirely: Junckers HP Sport Linemarking is a two-component water-based paint specifically for marking court lines and defined areas on sports hall floors. It's designed to go over floors already sealed with a compatible sports lacquer, rather than being used as a general-purpose floor colour — worth checking your existing floor's lacquer before ordering, since it's formulated to bond to a specific type of sealed surface.

Common Questions About Floor Paint

Can I use floor paint over any wood floor finish?
Not always — some floor paints, like sports line-marking paint, are designed to bond to a specific sealed surface. Check the product's compatibility with your existing finish before applying.

Will floor paint hide the wood grain completely?
Yes, generally — floor paint gives full, opaque colour coverage, so unlike a stain or oil, the timber's natural grain and tone are largely covered rather than enhanced.

Is floor paint durable enough for high-traffic areas?
Products designed specifically for floors, such as Tover's Uniqua range, are formulated for hardness and abrasion resistance in high-traffic use — but check the specific product's intended use, since not all paint is rated for floors.
